The third graders learned about the position and motion of objects as they gain an understanding of the four forces of flight. They conducted various experiments to explore the forces of lift, thrust, drag and weight. Through experimentation, students understood the role of Bernoulli’s principle and Newton’s laws in explaining flight. They concluded that design plays an important role in successful flights.
The students engaged in the engineering design process as they built a model of the Voyager while studying the journeys of the Voyagers 1 and 2 in space and the valuable data they have been sending back to us.
They are currently exploring and building different designs of paper planes.
