Third Graders Explore Earth's Place in the Universe

9/26/2019

The third graders are exploring the Earth’s place in the universe. The students researched the planets in our solar system and compared the sizes of various stars across the galaxies. The students followed the scientific method to find the factors affecting the brightness of a star. They conducted experiments to test their hypothesis. They then discussed the importance of space exploration and the important space missions that humans have undertaken.
The students are tracing the journeys of Voyagers 1 and 2 in space and tracking their current status. For engineering and design thinking, they will be analyzing the 3D model of the Voyagers as they create blueprints and build  their own version of the spacecraft with their partners.
