Kindergarten students started the school year learning about tools that we use in our science lab. Currently they are learning about the human body. The students investigated the different parts of the human body and learned about the major organs. They used a stethoscope to listen to their heartbeat. While exploring the human skeletal system the students looked at various X-rays and learned that X-rays are images of the human body. In health and hygiene the students focussed on the importance of washing hands to prevent spread of infections. They also learned about the microorganisms that cause these infections.
The first graders explored the role of a scientist. They followed the step by step procedure a scientist uses to solve real world problems. This helped them develop an understanding of the scientific method. They are learning to use the scientific tools in our lab. The first graders learned about paper chromatography. They conducted an experiment to effectively use this technique and make observations. The students also learned to propose a hypothesis before conducting an experiment.
