Second Graders Study Habitats

10/5/2017

Our enthusiastic scientists used excellent observation skills to study habitats. They explored and looked for various microhabitats in our outdoor classroom. They were successful in finding them underneath rocks, logs, old scarecrow, in and around trees etc. Some of the interesting animals and insects spotted were birds, spiders, butterflies, slugs, crickets, sow bugs and pill bugs . They studied bess beetles in the classroom to learn more about it's habitat, needs and behavior. They learned that bess beetles are wonderful communicators and are able to produce different calls audible to human ear.
In the coming weeks the students will design and build an insect hotel. They will also learn about food chains, food webs and adaptations.
