First  Graders Learn to Use Scientific Tools

10/18/2017

The current unit of study for first grade is, “What do scientists do?” The students started the unit by understanding the role of a scientist. They discussed the concept of gravity and tested it by conducting experiments. Later, they created an artwork using this concept.
The students are learning various scientific skills, one of them is learning to use scientific tools. They learned that scientific tools and equipment such as a microscope, magnifying glass, pipette/dropper, scales, measuring tape/stick etc. help us to make precise observations. They are also learning that scientists always record their observations. Students are using their notebooks  as tools to record their data and thinking as they work in the science room.
